It's that time of year again! Time for the new crop of graduates to begin preparing for their arangetram debuts starting this spring and summer.
The arangetram (literally, "ascending the stage") is a rite of passage, the culmination of an odyssey that takes a dancer from student to graduate. Each dancer performs for two plus hours the elaborate, graceful and highly technical Bharata Natyam form of dance.
For many years, it has been our privilege and joy to photograph many of these accomplished dancers, and here is a glimpse of some of them.
